ORFU Make Decision On Club Rugby Promotion/Relegation
Posted: 19 August 2010
The Otago Rugby Football Union has made a decision regarding the promotion/relegation match between Zingari-Richmond and University B and this decision has been forwarded to all metropolitan rugby clubs.
The current metropolitan regulations regarding this match, potentially allowed for the winner to be promoted into the Premier Division 1 grade. However, following the recently completed amateur rugby review, all but one Premier Club agreed that all Clubs should only have one team in the top grade. This has been endorsed by the Board of the ORFU.
University B was the winner of the Premier Division 2 final, and as this club already has a team in the Premier 1 Division the decision of the ORFU means that University B will not be promoted into the Premier Division for 2011.
‘It is the wish of both clubs to play the upcoming promotion/relegation match scheduled for this Saturday, and the ORFU has no issue with this occurring. However the result of this match will have no bearing on the composition of premier teams for 2011, as they will remain the same as for this seasons competition’ said ORFU Chief Executive Richard Reid.
