2012 Subway Indoor Rippa Rugby Competition-Edgar Centre
Hello All,
Well it’s that time of the year and another chance to give your kids a chance to play “Rippa Rugby”. The 2012 term 1 competition starts Monday 20th February, the following information will outline everything you need to know about the tournament.
There are 3 sections, which are:
Section One- Year 3 & 4. - Games Start 3:45pm & 4:15pm
Section Two- Year 5 & 6. - Games start at 4:15pm & 4:45pm
Section Three- Year 7 & 8. - Games start at 5:15, 5:45.
(One 30 minutes game per week)
Time:
Games will be 15 minutes each half, a hooter will sound every 15 minutes, this means the teams must be at their court 5-10 minutes before their game, ready to go on straight away, the longer you take the less time you have to play!! There is no half time break, as time doesn’t allow us, but subs can be made during the game.
Example: Hooter will go at 3:45 for the start of the first game, at 4pm the hooter will go off which means change of ends (half time), at 4:15 the hooter will sound again which means end of game one and start of game two. This process continues until 6:45pm when the last game finishes.
It is up to the coaches and referees to move through the process as fast as possible (getting belts on & off) so the next game can start.
Rules:
• 6 players on field at a time – equal numbers on the field from both teams.
• Substitutes can be changed at half time and when the ball is out of play or stoppages.
• 6 rips per team, once six rips have been made then there is a turnover in possession, other team starts with a free pass.
• Once player is ripped they must pass the ball within 3 steps of being ripped. Referee will call “pass”.
• Normal rules apply with respect to forward passes, offside and knock-on.
• No kicking
• The defender to yell out “RIP” once they have ripped a flag, and then hand it back to the player who it was ripped off, not re-enter the game until you have handed the flag back and have two flags on your belt.
• Try scored once placed over the try line.
• Respect the Referees and their calls are final!!
• Have fun and play fair.
• All players must wear shoes, no shoes then no game!
To qualify for Otago Finals your team must be a mixed team, meaning must have 2 boys and 2 girls on the field at all times.
All playing equipment will be provided by the ORFU; all we ask is that school/teams may wear team tops (if possible) which will help separate the two teams.
Cost:
On arrival each player must pay $2.50 per game to the Edgar Centre, this is for the use of the facility.
Registration:
I will be delivering NZRU registration packs to all schools prior to the competition starting. The packs will contain forms for children that played for your school in 2011 and are returning for 2012, these forms need to be checked and updated where necessary. Also new forms for children playing rippa for the first time will need to be filled in as thoroughly as possible. I can email out a copy of the registration if need be also.
All player registration forms must be back to me before or on Monday 5th March 2012, otherwise team will be withdrawn from competition.
The Draw:
The Draw will be emailed out every Wednesday before the Monday games to the contacts that I have been provided with, also there will be a draw in the entrance way of the Edgar Centre, with a map showing where each court is. If there is any other email addresses that require the draw please let me know.
Also the draw will be posted on our website under Community Rugby and the Primary school rugby tab.(www.orfu.co.nz)
Supporters:
Please respect the playing fields, do not walk over or stand in the playing field, there is room to walk through at the ends of the fields, please check the field maps.

Monday 20th February – Round One
Monday 27th February – Round Two
Monday 5th March – Round Three
