2012 Subway Rippa Rugby Competition - Bishopscourt (Kaikorai)

Hello All,

Well it’s that time of the year and another chance to give your kids a chance to play “Rippa Rugby”. The 2012 term 1 competition starts Wednesday 29th February; the following information will outline everything you need to know about the tournament.

There are 3 sections, which are:
Section One-   Year 3 & 4
Section Two-   Year 5 & 6
Section Three- Year 7 & 8
(One 30 minutes game per week)

What is Rippa?
Rippa Rugby is a fantastic game that both boys and girls enjoy playing; it is one of the quickest ball games around. It is a similar game to touch rugby but instead of playing the ball between the legs, you just pass the ball. Which means it is a fast non stop game. The idea is to rip the oppositions tag off their belt to make a tackle, once a tag is ripped then the player must pass the ball, each team gets 6 rips before the ball is handed over. We have over 70 teams playing it at the Edgar Centre so let’s show that the rest of Dunedin can also play and enjoy Rippa Rugby.

Venue: Bishopscourt – Kaikorai Rugby Club

Rules:
• 6 players on field at a time – equal numbers on the field from both teams.
• Substitutes can be changed at half time and when the ball is out of play or stoppages.
• 6 rips per team, once six rips have been made then there is a turnover in possession, other team starts with a free pass.
• Once player is ripped they must pass the ball within 3 steps of being ripped. Referee will call “pass”.
• Normal rules apply with respect to forward passes, offside and knock-on.
• No kicking
• The defender to yell out “RIP” once they have ripped a flag, and then hand it back to the player who it was ripped off, not re-enter the game until you have handed the flag back and have two flags on your belt.
• Try scored once placed over the try line.
• Respect the Referees and their calls are final!!
• Have fun and play fair.
• All players must wear shoes or touch boots (No Metal Studs) no shoes then no game!

To qualify for Otago Finals your team must be a mixed team, meaning must have 2 boys and 2 girls on the field at all times.

All playing equipment will be provided by the ORFU; all we ask is that school/teams may wear team tops (if possible) which will help separate the two teams.

Registration:
I will be delivering NZRU registration packs to all schools prior to the competition starting. The packs will contain forms for children that played for your school in 2011 and are returning for 2012, these forms need to be checked and updated where necessary. Also new forms for children playing rippa for the first time will need to be filled in as thoroughly as possible. I can email out a copy of the registration if need be also.

All player registration forms must be back to me before Wednesday 14th March 2012, otherwise team will be withdrawn from competition.

The Draw:
The Draw will be emailed out every Friday before the Wednesday games to the contacts that I have been provided with. If there is any other email addresses that require the draw please let me know.
Also the draw will be posted on our website under Community Rugby and the Primary school rugby tab. ( www.orfu.co.nz )
