2024 HIGHLANDERS REGION REFEREES SQUAD

A new-look national development referee programme has been introduced in 2024 and features 7 of our referees from Otago

The programme sees the traditional High Performance squad disbanded in favour of a regional model which will allow more referees the exposure to development and training.

Split along Super Rugby regional lines, the five squads will come together for three development workshops a year in their regions, with each group having leading coaches overseeing their programmes.

In Otago we are very fortunate to have 7 members represent us in the Highlanders region. They are: James Doleman, Fraser Hannon, Erin Doherty, Caleb Neilson, Logan Whitty, Jackson Brierly and Michael Buttery.

Congratulations go to the rest of the Highlanders referees squad; Cassie Watt, Georgia Mason, Joshua Hamil and Jared Fox for their inclusion.

It is also worth mentioning that the Otago factory has had a hand in producing 6 other referees that have been named in squads too:

Blues: Ben O’Keeffe, Sam Adam and Ollie Hadfield

Hurricanes: Stu Curran, Jono Bredin, and former Otago Spirit player Claire Richardson

The Highlanders Referees Squad is capably led by Head Coaches, Jim Thomson (Otago) and Hamish McMurdo (Southland).
