Otago Named for Home Shield Defence Against Canterbury

The Otago team has been named for round two of the Hilux NPC against Canterbury at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

The clash will see both the Ranfurly Shield and Payne Trophy on the line, while also serving as a rematch of the 2025 NPC Final. Christian Lio-Willie will captain the side.

The match marks Otago's first home game of the season, with the return of the Junior Rugby March Past set to bring club colours and community spirit to the stadium.

Otago NPC Team Manager Simon Wallace said the team is looking forward to reconnecting with supporters after the incredible backing received late in the 2025 season.

"The way our fans turned up for us in the later part of 2025 was special and the team truly value that support. We'd love to see those supporters back in their blue and gold for our first home game of the season."
