Last Wednesday, 30 coaches from around the Otago region, and three from a visiting Adelaide team, attended an observation session with the Pulse Energy Highlanders coaches, thanks to Cory Brown and the ORFU Coaching Development Crew.
The session was split into forwards and backs from the get go and the attending coaches could choose which Highlanders coach to shadow, depending on what individual aspect of their coaching they wanted to observe.
Mark Hammett and Clarke Dermody took the forwards session and further split the session 50/50 between line-outs and scrums.
The backs went with Tony Brown, Scott Mcleod and Jon Preston and spent the majority of the session focusing on skills. Individual stations were set up for the last 20 minutes with Jon Preston taking the half backs, Tony Brown focusing on the high ball and kicking with the inside and outside backs and the rest of the players doing some defence work with Scott Mcleod.
At the conclusion of the one hour session, the coaches were given the opportunity to mix and mingle with the Pulse Energy Highlanders Coaches and ask any questions they may have, with both parties having a fantastic old catch up.
It was a great opportunity for coaches from the Otago Region and a great initiative from Cory Brown and the ORFU Coaching Development Crew and we hope to see it again next year!
